Tombstone Tuesday - August 18, 2015 - Charles Henry Hainer

Charles Henry Hainer was born on  June 2, 1834.  He was the son of John Hainer and Nancy Bowman born in Burford township, Brant, Ontario. Charles was one of eleven children born to John and Nancy Hainer.  Charles Henry became a farmer and married Jane McCormick on December 13, 1853. They had seven children, six sons and one daughter ; Charles D., Edwin A., Levi W., John A., William H., Mary E. and Whitfield.

Soon after he married Jane, he found his true calling and became a Baptist Minister, becoming one of the leading ministers of the Baptist faith in Canada. His wife, Jane died in 1870, aged thirty-eight years. He married (second wife) Miss Grace Terry on June 20 1871 and they had two children, Frederick and Herbert. All the sons of Rev Charles Henry Hainer became ministers.

This church was originally built in 1860 on the property across the street from the land farmed by Charles H. Hainer.  Before the church was built, Charles held services in the school.

Charles died on  August 17, 1915 in Stouffville, Ontario at the age of 81.  He is buried in New Market Cemetery.

I hope I can obtain a photo of his tombstone at some point and  will continue to research this family of ministers to see I can put together a blog on them.

Happy Hunting,

Jan
